News Release
Date: July 26, 2010
Time: 5:07 p.m.
Location: 2947 16th Street
Event: Death Investigation
Information: On July 26, 2010 at approximately 5:07 p.m. Officers were dispatched to O’Reilly Auto Parts, 2947 16th Street in reference to a disturbance. While enroute, dispatch was advised that an off duty Orange Police Officer was involved and that a subject had been shot. Upon arriving at the scene officers learned that a disturbance had occurred inside the business, then moved outside into the parking lot. During the disturbance, the off duty officer shot a 28 year old West Orange resident. The injured subject was transported by Acadian Ambulance Service to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he died a short time later. The deceased was identified as James Whitehead W/M 28 years old.
The incident is being investigated by the The Orange Police Department, Vidor Police Department, Pinehurst Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, The Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers.
